Uta Schotten: Vita

Born in Haarlem (NL), the artist Uta Schotten looks back on a solid academic background at Germany’s most renowned art academies: Kunstakademie Düsseldorf. Her journey began in 1991 at the Städelschule in Frankfurt am Main under Prof. Jörg Immendorff, followed by studies at the HBK Braunschweig under Prof. Steven McKenna and Prof. Arwed Gorella.

She completed her studies at the Düsseldorf Art Academy under Prof. Siegfried Anzinger.

There, in 1998, she was appointed Siegfried Anzinger’s first Meisterschülerin (master student) and supported him as a tutor and assistant until receiving her diploma in 1999. Alongside her artistic training, she was also actively involved in university politics during this period, serving as an AStA representative on the admissions selection committee.

Immediately following her studies, she deepened her understanding of sculpture through working as a Sculptor at the studio of Tony Cragg in Wuppertal (2003–2005).

Since 1991, Uta Schotten has maintained a continuous presence through national and international exhibitions and publications; her works are represented in numerous collections. Today, she lives and works as a freelance artist in Cologne. Her work has received numerous awards, including grants from the Stiftung Kunstfonds Bonn and the State of North Rhine-Westphalia.
